Surge-io's Trip to Peru
Our friend Surge-io Garcia recently spent some time in Peru. He was kind enough to share some amazing photos of life in this beautiful country as well as a little info about the soda down there!

The first picture is a glass bottle of Inca Kola, the soda of Perú...this stuff is everywhere - along with Coca-Cola it seemed to be the most popular soda there. I thought it was pretty good. I would describe the taste as something like bubble gum, and very sweet. I want to find somewhere around here where I can buy it, I know of a few places that I'll have to check out. Another very strange thing I saw when I was in Perú was 2-liter glass bottles of soda. As you can imagine, they weigh a ton. I should have brought a few back but I was afraid they'd get smashed on the plane and that would be a real mess so I didn't get any.

Also here are a few pictures I took on my trip, the first couple are of Machu Picchu, an ancient Inca city way up in the Andes mountains. It's really an incredible place to see, and the ride straight up the mountain to get there is pretty amazing too.

Next are a couple pictures from Lima, the huge capital city. I wish I could have spent more time there. The first is of a street painter that used only spray paint and a lighter to make these amazing paintings and sold them for like 30 cents. One of the best things about Perú is that everything is so cheap - t-shirts and CD's are like 3 bucks. I heard that some of the most luxurious beach-side condos are like 1,000 bucks a month, the cost of an average apartment here. The second one is of a casino I saw in Lima called New York Casino. I thought that was pretty funny with the Statue of Liberty and all so I couldn't resist taking a picture of it.

Finally here's a picture from the Amazon Rainforest. It was a lot different than Minnesota, that's for sure...the humidity is like getting out of a hot, steamy shower, and nothing ever dries. I had a pair of wet pants that didn't dry in 3 days hanging by a fan! It's definitely worth enduring the weather though, because it's an amazing place to see with crocodiles, tarantulas, monkeys, and pirannhas all in the area. Luckily they weren't Brazilian monkeys like on the Simpsons, but it was still cool to see.
All in all it was an incredible trip...this summer I think I'll be going to Washington, DC right before entering college so we'll see how that compares.
