Phoenix's Ultimate Test: SURGE vs. URGE
Finally, a real taste test! SURGE fan Phoenix acquired a few bottles of Urge, SURGE's Norwegian cousin, from a friend in Norway (at great expense). For years, we at SaveSURGE.org have wondered just how similar these two beverages are. After all, our beloved SURGE is bright green and URGE has more of an orange color. Plus, sodas made outside of the USA tend to use real cane sugar as a sweetener as opposed to high fructose corn syrup. Luckily, Phoenix not only had a bottle of URGE, he also had a can of SURGE to compare it to!
So, what were the results of this comparison???
They are VERY close. If I close my eyes and take a sip of one then a sip of another I can't be absolutely sure of which one I'm drinking. There is a slight difference though, URGE tastes a little orangier, and has a more natural citrus taste. The SURGE is still pretty carbonated, but not like brand new (note: his SURGE is past its freshness date), and the URGE has noticeably more carbonation. As for fragrance, URGE has a very orange smell, and the SURGE has virtually no scent, possibly due to it's age.
URGE is AWESOME, and almost identical in flavor, but it lacks the radioactive, unnatural kick-in-the-mouth contained in the SURGE can (I can't explain it any better than that). If you prefer a more natural flavor, you might like URGE better. I'm sure that someone that isn't as in love with SURGE as I am wouldn't be able to tell the difference, as even I had to strain my taste buds to find these minute variations. Bottom line, I'd rather have SURGE, but I assure you that you won't find a flavor this close anywhere else.

Thank you Phoenix for giving us the answer we've been waiting to hear!
