There was 1 new SURGE Sightings reported since the last edition of SaveSURGE News in Orlando, FL. A listing for Merrick, NY was up for one day before being deleted.

Sadly, there were 4 deletions in: Springfield, MA; Middletown, NJ; Merrick, NY & Rochester, NY. It was a tough week in the Northeast.

Overall there are 125 SURGE Sightings listed. Thanks to all of you who keep an eye out for SURGE!

SaveSURGE.org Continues to Grow – Thanks to you
As you may remember, SaveSURGE.org celebrated its second birthday back in February. It’s really amazing to sit back and think about how the site, and more importantly, the community has grown since 2002. There really is quite a snowball effect. A friend may have told you about the site, then you tell a friend and they tell a friend…you know what I’m getting at.

The fact that our community of SURGE lovers continues to steadily grow very much legitimizes what we’re doing. Our friends over at Coca-Cola must by now realize that the SaveSURGE community is serious and dedicated to bringing SURGE back. I think that is going to really shine through on Contact Coca-Cola Day on April 30th.

I’m also hoping that it shines through to another group of people. Last fall, I decided to enter our site for consideration in the annual Webby Awards. They have several different categories to which you can enter your site. We seemed to fit in a few of them but the one I chose was Community because, above all, I feel that’s what we really are. The entry guidelines say that a Community site doesn’t necessarily have to be one with millions of members, it can be a niche group like ours. The nominations come out on Tuesday, April 20th and will receive a lot of international publicity.

How much of a chance do we have of winning a nomination? That’s hard to say, but I can tell you that I wouldn’t have entered SaveSURGE.org in this competition if I didn’t believe we had a chance to win. Your dedication and passion for SURGE is what makes me believe. We may never win an award for having the largest community but we may very well win one for being the most unique.

Getting that nomination would be great not only because of the honor but also because we would get a lot of media exposure which would only help our cause. Whatever happens this Tuesday, I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve done so far.
