SaveSURGE News

Good day SURGE fans and welcome to the 64th edition of SaveSURGE News! It's all green and it's all good.

Sightings Report
There have been 4 new SURGE Sightings reported since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They are in: CA, GA, NY & OH.

Sadly, there were 7 deletions in: AZ, GA (2), IN, KY, MI & TX.

Currently, there are 156 SURGE Sightings listed. Thanks to everyone who's seen SURGE!

National SaveSURGE Month Rolls On
As we approach mid-September we see that the impact of National SaveSURGE Month has been substantial. Thanks to your efforts Coca-Cola, its bottlers and businesses that serve Coke products are now more aware than ever of the demand to bring SURGE back! It truly looks as though Coca-Cola is starting to realize just how many people miss our beloved green soda.

Need proof? I was fortunate enough to witness proof of National SaveSURGE Month's impact when I received an e-mail from Coca-Cola's customer service department this week in response to a letter I wrote them last Friday:

"Thank you for contacting The Coca-Cola Company. We are pleased to hear how much you enjoy SURGE.

Your Web site certainly displays your loyalty! I will be sure to pass your message on to the appropriate management.

Thanks for your loyalty!

Cris
Consumer Affairs
The Coca-Cola Company"

Even though the response from Cris was short, it was also very significant in that it doesn't appear to be in any way a part of a form letter response. For over one year, seemingly every letter SURGE fans sent to Coca-Cola were met with the exact same response, obviously from a form letter. This is the first time yours truly has seen a personalized response (and one that mentions the website at that!). This is a big step in the right direction and we need to keep that momentum going strong. We ask that you continue your great efforts to make National SaveSURGE Month a success!

Here's what we're asking each of you to do:

Every Friday: We're asking EVERY SURGE FAN to contact Coca-Cola, its Bottlers and local businesses in your area that serve Coke products in their fountain. Request that SURGE be brought back IMMEDIATELY. Tell them how much SURGE means to you! It would also be great if everyone would call Coca-Cola's toll free number, 1-800-GET-COKE at least once each Friday as well.

Every Day of the Month: Spread the word about SURGE and SaveSURGE.org any way you can. Wear your SURGE gear, tell your friends, pass out our flyer, sign our petition, start your own local petition and let everyone know that WE WANT OUR SURGE BACK!

Thank you SURGE fans for all of your great efforts this month and every month! We are making a difference!!!!

SaveSURGE.org on the Radio
Avery & I had the pleasure of being guests on Madison Wisconsin's own 100X this past Tuesday, September 9. We got to speak with The Bench Jockeys live on the air for approximately 10 minutes about SURGE & SaveSURGE.org. Not only was this our first radio interview, it was actually the first time Avery & I heard each other's voice!

The interview went very well (after some initial technical difficulties) and we'd like to thank 100X and all the great folks out in Wisconsin who have since visited the site. We are supposed to receive a copy of the segment within the next few weeks and we will post it so that everyone can listen in. Stay tuned!

Watch Three Original SURGE Commercials!
SURGE Commercials Online! Our friend MRA John was kind enough to donate three SURGE commercials for your viewing pleasure! Two are from the original SURGE ad campaign and the other is from its "re-launch" back in 1999. They are a great way to relive the memories of those great days now past. Personally, I have to say that viewing these commercials has inspired me to work even harder to bring SURGE back.

You can view the commercials in SURGE Multimedia - located under the For the Love of SURGE menu on the top of every page.

Thanks John!

More to Love
Lots of great additions have been made to our For the Love of SURGE section. Included in this week's updates are: Salvadore's latest SURGE Poem and fountain stickers, Ryan's SURGE memories and Will shows off his latest eBay purchase. All of this and more in the Stories and Photos section of For the Love of SURGE!

Pepsi Vanilla Debuts

Pepsi VanillaAs this never-ending cycle of "me too!" beverages hits the shelves, Pepsi recently introduced its vanilla-flavored version. It's obviously meant to change the minds of those Vanilla Coke drinkers, but how does it stack up? The SaveSURGE.org Bulletin Board has plenty of opinions:

"Well I tried it. The diet isn't too bad more or less on par with Diet VC. But the regular is jus syrupy not in a good way. Its pretty gross. Its always amazing when a company has a year to copy something and still does a bad job....oh well typical Pepsi sub-par junk."
-Avery

" just got a chance to taste it. I has a different aftertaste but well, I hate it. I never did like Pepsi of any form. It's gross. The only Pepsi product I would ever touch was Mountain Dew."
-MRA John

"Good Stuff"
-ChadyzGroove

"I tried Pepsi Vanilla, and I love it! The Diet PV is also good too!"
-Kid Caliente

"Very good i must say...Vanilla Coke was OK, but i found Vanilla Pepsi to have a much better taste--Vanilla Coke was just not enugh flavor, and the flavor that is there isnt very good and it tastes more like cream soda...pepsi vanilla is how a vanilla soda should taste..."
-tsik

"vanilla coke is a lot better than pepsi vanilla... in my opinion, pepsi is good by itself, but when they try and flavor it, it doesnt come out right, where as coca cola taste great by itself too, but is also a great drink to mix different flavors into, for example cherry coke, vanilla coke..."
-redbridgeroad

Personally, I think Pepsi Vanilla is slightly better than what I anticipated, but doesn't come close to Vanilla Coke in overall quality.

What do you think about Vanilla Pepsi? Post your opinions on The SaveSURGE.org Bulletin Board and you could see them published in the next newsletter! Visit the topic at:

Poll Results - Give it a year
The latest SURGE Poll asked you to predict: "SURGE will come back within:"

31.6% - 1 year
24.1% - Never
18.3% - 3 months
15% 6 - months
10.8% - 9 months

Total Votes: 120

While the vast majority of SURGE fans believe SURGE will come back, many seem to think that we won't see it on shelves again until at least 6 more months. Remember, good things come to those who wait…

That's all the time we have for this week. Thanks for your love of SURGE!

Sincerely,

Eric Karkovack
