SaveSURGE News

Hello SURGE fans and welcome to the 62nd edition of SaveSURGE News! Always fighting to save the soda you love.

Sightings Report
There were 6 new SURGE Sightings reported since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They are in: FL, GA (2), MI, OK & WI.

Some potentially great news came from our friend Josh over on the SaveSURGE.org Bulletin Board. He has found out that the Big Lots stores in his area of Florida from time to time will receive some SURGE! This is most likely out-of-date, but who cares it's SURGE!!!! Be sure to check out your local Big Lots or visit them on the web at http://www.biglots.com. Good luck and thanks for the tip, Josh!

One of the new Sightings in Lawrenceville, GA is for cans located inside a vending machine outside a Wal Mart. These are probably out-of-date cans and most likely on a very limited supply.

Sadly, there were 4 deletions in: FL (2), GA & MI.

Currently, there are 165 SURGE Sightings listed. Thanks to everyone who looks out for SURGE wherever they go!

National SaveSURGE Month Gains Momentum
As we steamroll into September, National SaveSURGE Month is steadily gaining momentum. On Thursday, August 28 an article about the big event graced the pages of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper (the article has been online since August 27). This is great news because not only will it attract more SURGE fans to participate but this article is also appearing right in Coca-Cola's back yard!

A Coke spokesman says in the article that "Surge remains an option for bottlers to offer". However, it should be noted that many of the bottlers we've talked to don't appear to even be aware that SURGE syrup is still being made. There seems to be a definite lack of communication regarding SURGE's status and it looks like it will fall upon us to make sure that bottlers know the truth. As we write our letters and make our phone calls throughout National SaveSURGE Month we should be sure to remind Coca-Cola bottlers that SURGE syrup is indeed still available for them to purchase. As for the details of National SaveSURGE Month…

Here's what we're asking each of you to do:

Every Friday: We're asking EVERY SURGE FAN to contact Coca-Cola, its Bottlers and local businesses in your area that serve Coke products in their fountain. Request that SURGE be brought back IMMEDIATELY. Tell them how much SURGE means to you!

Every Day of the Month: Spread the word about SURGE and SaveSURGE.org any way you can. Wear your SURGE gear, tell your friends, pass out our flyer, sign our petition, start your own local petition and let everyone know that WE WANT OUR SURGE BACK!

SURGE fans, this is your time to shine! September is upon us and we can all make a difference. Let's stuff their mailboxes and flood their phone lines and make sure that everyone knows how much we miss SURGE!

Stay tuned to the site and SaveSURGE News for the latest developments.

Ramp - the next SURGE???
How does Ramp stack up to SURGE?We've received a few e-mails within the last couple of months touting the regionally available store-brand called Ramp as a possible SURGE clone. It is most often seen in grocery stores.

I did have the chance to try Ramp recently and I will say that in my opinion there is a slight resemblance to our beloved SURGE. The packaging, for one, does give an "extreme" image much like SURGE (albeit a much more generic one). As for the taste, Ramp is a citrus soda and does have a little bit of SURGE flavor to it but the aftertaste seems more like watered-down Mountain Dew. My overall opinion is that Ramp is a decent knock-off. And while it does bring back some SURGE memories, it doesn't quite rank up there with dnL and it's SURGE-like goodness. Still, it's worth a try!

We also received a letter from Jackie this week who informed us of another store brand called Sunpop which she said also tastes a lot like SURGE. It's available in Shop and Stop stores and possibly some other ones across the country so keep on the lookout for that one as well.

Thanks to everyone who informed us about these store brand sodas, enjoy!

Poll Results - SURGE Fans are Uniting!
The latest SURGE Poll asked you: Do you plan on participating in September's National SaveSURGE Month?

71.9% Yes
15.7% No
12.3% Undecided

Total Votes: 89

We're going to need all the help we can get! We need EVERY SURGE FAN TO PARTICIPATE if we are going to have a chance to bring SURGE back. Let's keep up the great work and rock on into September!!!!

That's all the time we have for this week. Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend and look for SURGE wherever you may roam!

Sincerely,

Eric Karkovack
