SaveSURGE News

Greetings ever-faithful SURGE fans and welcome to the 54th edition of SaveSURGE News. The critics said we'd never make it past 53 issues but we proved 'em wrong!

Sightings Report

There were 2 new SURGE Sightings reported since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They are in GA & SC.

Sadly, there were 5 deletions in: IN (3), MI & WI.

Currently, there are 174 SURGE Sightings listed. Thanks to all of you who look for SURGE wherever you go!

Will SURGE Come Back to Sheboygan?
Some very positive news came out of the SaveSURGE.org Bulletin Board this week from Steve in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. It seems he has been regularly contacting his local Coca-Cola Bottler and has been told that there is a chance that SURGE may just come back to his home town!

Apparently, sales of Mello Yello are dormant (big surprise!) and at the moment Coke really doesn't have anything else on store shelves to compete with the other citrus beverages out there. And so, they may just put our beloved fully loaded citrus soda back in the game.

While there are no guarantees, if SURGE fans in Wisconsin continue to request their favorite beverage, who knows what can happen. So, we're asking those of you in Wisconsin (or anywhere else, really) to write or call the Coca Cola facility in Sheboygan and let them know that you want your SURGE! Here's the contact info:

Coca Cola
1837 North Avenue, Sheboygan, WI 53083
(920) 457-2760

A big thanks goes out to Steve for making us all aware of this great step forward!

Hall of Famers to be Announced
SaveSURGE.org Hall of FameThe second round of inductions into the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame will take place on Friday, August 1, 2003. Those chosen few that have made it into the Hall have already been notified and are currently working feverishly to write biographies, answer questions and find pictures of themselves suitable for all SURGE fans to see. We're holding the names in secret right now so that none of our new Hall members show up in some supermarket tabloid with wild rumors spreading about them. Actually, we're just waiting until August 1 to keep it a surprise.

There will also be some changes to how the Hall of Fame works. Inducting two people every six months isn't really often enough considering just how many dedicated SURGE fans are out there. So we've decided to start inducting two new members to the SaveSURGE.org Hall of Fame every three months instead! Hopefully this will make the Hall more accessible and fun for everyone.

Sunny D + dnL = SURGE?
A few months back, Matt sent in his recipe for home made SURGE which required the mixing of Sunny D and dnL. John recently went out and tried this concoction and reports that it was a very close match to our beloved green soda. You can read all about his experience in our For the Love of SURGE section.

Stop the Presses!
SaveSURGE.org has been featured in the press several times over the past 17 months. In fact, we are slated to be included in the July 2003 edition of Beverage Spectrum Magazine. If you missed an article, you can always access it in our SaveSURGE.org in the Press section, located under the About menu on the top of every page.

Poll Results - Just Bring it Back
The Latest SURGE Poll asked you: If SURGE comes back, which soda should it replace?

29.4% - Just bring it back - don't replace anything
19.2% - Sprite Remix
17.3% - Mello Yello
8.3% - Vanilla Coke
8.3% - Fresca
7% - Tab
6.4% - Diet Coke w/ Lemon
3.8% - Citra

Total Votes: 156

I think this poll shows that many SURGE fans are sympathetic to how hard it is to have a favorite soda discontinued. However, it's no surprise that if SURGE is going to replace anything, it's going to be either Coke's newest beverage (Sprite Remix) or the soda that replaced SURGE (Mello Yello).

That's all the time we have for this week. Have a very safe and happy Independence Day weekend and look out for SURGE wherever you may roam!

Sincerely,

Eric Karkovack
