Good day SURGE fans and welcome to the 51st edition
of SaveSURGE News! We love SURGE more than Coca-Cola ever expected.
Sightings Report
There was just one new SURGE
Sighting added since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. It
is in Purcell, OK.
Sadly, there were four deletions. They were in:
Lafayette, IN; Emporia, KS; Moore, OK & Oak Ridge, TN.
Currently, there are 174 SURGE Sightings listed.
A great big thanks to all of you who are on the lookout for SURGE
wherever you go!
SaveSURGE.org to be
Featured in Beverage World
SaveSURGE.org is slated to be included in the June 2003 edition
of Beverage
World magazine! Beverage World is a huge beverage-industry publication
which is subscribed to by over 54,000 people worldwide (more than
34,000 in the USA alone). Many of the people who read Beverage World
are executives at soft drink companies who make decisions on which
sodas to make and which to discontinue (nudge-nudge, wink-wink).
In fact, Coca-Cola even makes a small mention of Beverage World
on
their website.
This is very big news for SURGE and for the website.
The people who read this magazine are the ones we must convince
that SURGE is missed, wanted and needed by its incredibly loyal
fans. They are going to be reading the article and then they are
going to visit SaveSURGE.org. SURGE fans, this is a big opportunity
for all of us to make a statement together. I believe that we'll
make that statement just by doing what we've been doing since February
of 2002. Let's continue to show our undying love for that Fully-Loaded
Citrus Soda and good things will happen!
The June edition of Beverage World is coming out
sometime within the next week. We will have more info and hopefully
a full transcript of the article available to you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, let's keep fighting that good fight. It's YOUR
time to shine.
URGE Update
As you
know by now, SaveSURGE.org is running a campaign to bring SURGE's
Norwegian equivalent, URGE, to the good old USA. We've asked you
to go to the Real Soda message board and let them know that we want
and are willing to buy URGE. Boy, have you responded! The
topic we setup on the Real Soda message board is now 5 pages
and counting, by far the largest and most popular topic on the board.
This week was a big step forward for our campaign
as we received a letter from Danny, the head of Real Soda! The general
tone of the letter is that Real Soda would indeed like to help us
out and bring URGE to the USA. Danny writes "I enjoy seeing
people fight to get something they want".
However (you knew there was a catch!), the process
of importing a new drink isn't an easy one. "The biggest problem
to get this drink URGE is going to be trying to find a way to officially
import it.", Danny said. He added, "I'm going to send
a note to someone who I know has family (in Norway) and see if they
can make some contacts". This process could take 6 months or
more, but it really depends on how quickly Real Soda can establish
a contact in Norway and how difficult importing the soda ends up
being.
That being said, Danny's letter has brought significant
progress to our campaign. Avery & I would like to thank Danny
and his staff over at Real Soda for their help! Their efforts to
please SURGE fans all over the country should be applauded by all
of us. While six months may seem like a long wait, remember that
anything in life that is worth having can take some time. We ask
that you stay patient and keep hoping that there is a way to bring
URGE to the USA!
You may also want to check out the Real Soda store
and browse their unbelievable selection of great sodas from all
around the world. The store's address is: http://www.sodaking.com/.
When you see some of the rare and out-of-the-way sodas they carry,
you'll know why SaveSURGE.org asked them for help!
Another New Soda from Coke
Within
the next week Coca Cola will begin test marketing another new soda,
Barq's Floatz. It's yet another entry in a growing list of brand
extensions, but this one actually sounds pretty good!
Barq's Floatz is a soda that is meant to taste
like an old-fashioned root beer float. It even comes in a 12oz.
glass bottle to give it an old school image. While this soda sounds
intriguing, it's only going to be available in the great states
of Louisiana and Mississippi (the birthplace of Barq's Root Beer)
during its test market trial. If it does well enough in those areas,
it may be produced in other places in the future.
If any SURGE fans in Louisiana or Mississippi
have a chance to try this new beverage, we'd love to hear from you!
Please e-mail us at surge@savesurge.org
with your thoughts on Barq's Floatz.
