Hello once again SURGE fans and welcome to the
37th edition of SaveSURGE News. If you love SURGE, then we love
you! If you don't love SURGE, then well, you're probably not going
to get as many props.
Sightings Update
-------------------------
There were 12 new SURGE
Sightings added since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They
were in: CA, CO, FL, OH (6), KY & NY (2).
Sadly, there were 5 deletions. They were in: MA,
OH (2), PA & WV.
Currently, there are 173 SURGE Sightings listed.
Thanks to everyone of you who keeps an eye out for SURGE!
Happy Birthday & a Hall of Fame
------------------------------------------------
Ladies and gentlemen, we at SaveSURGE.org are so proud to report
that our website celebrated its first birthday on Saturday, February
1st, 2003! Our birthday is a definite cause for celebration because
it proves that, without a doubt, there are SURGE fans in every corner
of this great nation.
When Avery & I started this site way back
in 2002, we had no idea what to expect. Personally, I hoped that
we could at least find a few dedicated fans of our favorite fully-loaded
citrus soda who would join the fight to bring it back. We wanted
to show the great folks at Coca-Cola that we weren't just two freaks
with nothing else to do. We wanted to let them know that we were
serious about SURGE.
One year later, much to our surprise and much
to our delight, you have brought this site all the way from its
infancy to a now full-fledged cult following! Your letters, your
SURGE Sightings, your pictures, your kind words and all of your
hard work make this site what it is today. Without the efforts of
you, SURGE fans, the site would be nothing more than a big SURGE
logo! Because of you, we update the site 4+ times a week, meaning
that we always have something new to check out. More importantly,
we're showing Coca-Cola and its bottlers that we are indeed very
serious.
As our birthday approached, Avery & I wanted
to find a way to celebrate not only the website, but the SURGE fans
who make SaveSURGE.org a fun and informative place to visit. And
so, we decided to create the one and only SURGE Lovers' Hall of
Fame (located at http://www.savesurge.org/surge/halloffame/)
to enshrine those who demonstrate unparalleled dedication to SURGE!
We plan to induct just two new members to the
Hall approximately every six months (the next induction will be
on 8/01/03). For more details on the nomination process and for
everything else you'd want to know about the Hall of Fame, please
check out the website.
The first ever inductees were handpicked by Avery
and myself. We wanted to enshrine two very special people who have
shown dedication (and then some!) to the beverage they love.
- Timb the Enchanter: Timb was the first person
we ever contacted about SaveSURGE.org. You see, he was already so
into SURGE that he started the SAVE SURGE online petition. The petition,
to this date, has over 2400 signatures and played a vital role in
our decision to create our own SURGE website. As if the petition
weren't enough, Timb has been a key contributor to SaveSURGE.org
by reporting Sightings and by donating his pictures, words and music
to the cause. I honestly think that there is nothing Timb wouldn't
do to get the word out about SURGE and SaveSURGE.org. He is more
than worthy of being a Hall of Famer but we don't think we're worthy
of him!
- Shepard Ritzen: Shepard is what SaveSURGE.org
is all about. He's not just a young man who enjoys a certain neon-green
soda, he no doubt loves it with all his being. And, when they tried
to take it away from him, there was no way he was going to let them.
His local 7-11 is where he fills up his giant cup with SURGE to
help him get through his work day. However, one day they took his
SURGE away. Not one to be deterred, Shepard rallied and convinced
the management of that 7-11 to bring back SURGE so that he could
once again feed his rush on a daily basis! He has dedicated himself
to SURGE and has given us quite a bit of SURGE Sightings and displays
for our For the Love of SURGE Section. Nobody does it better, Shepard!
Congratulations to our Hall of Famers and thanks
to all of you for a great year! Although our work is far from over,
we've gotten off to a wonderful start.
Bottler of the Week
----------------------------
To celebrate the plethora of SURGE Sightings from Ohio we've had
lately, let's make The Cleveland Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Inc. the
SaveSURGE.org Bottler of the week!
The Cleveland Coca-Cola Bottling
Co., Inc.
25000 Miles Rd.
Cleveland, OH 44146
216-690-2653
Let's get out those stamps and envelopes and tell
The Cleveland Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Inc. that while Cleveland
does indeed rock, it would rock a whole lot more if they started
producing SURGE once again!
For your convenience we've provided a form letter
that you can just print, sign and mail in our How
You Can Help page.
Would you like your local Coca-Cola bottler to
be the next SaveSURGE.org Bottler of the Week? If so, e-mail us
your name, hometown, zip code and any bottler information you might
have (it's ok if you don't know who your bottler is, we should be
able to locate it for you) to us at: surge@savesurge.org.
That's all the time we have for this week. Thanks for making SaveSURGE.org
the #1 SURGE site in the universe!!!
Sincerely,
Eric Karkovack
