SaveSURGE News

Hello all fans of SURGE and welcome to the 31st edition of SaveSURGE News. If we didn’t bring you the latest happenings in the world of SURGE, who would???

Seeing Green
--------------------
There have been 4 new SURGE Sightings since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They are in: IL, MA, NY & WI

Yipee! There were no deletions!!!

Overall, there are now 145 SURGE Sightings listed. Thanks to everybody who has sent in a Sighting!

It’s All for Love
---------------------
A couple of new additions have been made to our For the Love of SURGE section:

-Justin recently went down to Atlanta, GA and visited the ever-popular World of Coca-Cola. He was kind enough to share both his photos and his words. And yes, he did find some SURGE!

-Matt submitted a new recipe for home made SURGE using an ingredient that you may not expect.

Bottler of the Week
----------------------------
And the winner of the SaveSURGE.org Bottler of the week is: Tucson, AZ! Make sure to write the folks at Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. – Phoenix:

Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. - Phoenix

dnL: Do you Like it?
-----------------------------
In the last edition of SaveSURGE News, we asked for your opinions on the new Dr. Pepper/Seven Up drink, dnL. There were initial rumors were that dnL tasted a bit like SURGE and we just had to know if they held true. We received several responses from SURGE fans all across the country, and here they are:

"Oddly enough, on the same day you mention dnL being like Surge, my girlfriend brings home a bottle of it. It tastes a lot like old, flat Surge (and I know, I've been drinking a lot of that), just not quite as sweet. It's not near as good as Surge, of course, but it's not bad, either. The color's pretty close, too."
-Adam

"dnL is very green and sort of SURGE-esque both in its presentation and in its initial flavor. It is definitely more carbonated than SURGE which I think is unfortunate and one of its drawbacks. I find its candy-like green flavor very agreeable, but I don’t think I could put these away quite like SURGE, in that I think I would actually get tired of this one, whereas with SURGE, I could drink em non-stop for eternity and never lose any love.

"dnL is pretty good tho, it’s definitely better than Mt. Dew, and I agree its SURGE enough to give us a pretty decent fix and maybe get Coke's attention... pray for a relaunch!"
-timb

"I found some dnL at the store today, bought 4 bottles, but was stunned to find, it tasted nothing like Surge."
-Matt
(Editor’s Note: Matt found a way to make dnL taste a little more like SURGE. Check out his recipe in our For the Love of SURGE section.)

"dnL, or 7up(upside-down) is the closest drink to Surge I believe so far. I just tried it and I have to say it is pretty good. Might buy it a few times."
-Jim

"Recently I spotted dnL at my local quicktrip here in Ofallon , IL. It’s a tasty drink but in no way tastes like surge. In fact the only likeness in my opinion is that they are both green. I will drink it again but it’s no surge. "
-Brad

"I found that the new upside down 7up stuff is being tested around this area too, I remember reading the last letter, saying it is only in test areas. Well, at least Germantown has it in a Wawa there. It was not good at all. I mean I would never think to compare it to surge...it tasted like Fruitopia...or 7up with a little more fruity taste."
-Shepard

As you can see, the opinions on dnL are varied. Some people feel it tastes a bit like SURGE while other folks aren’t so sure. My personal opinion is that there is a very slight resemblance to our favorite Fully Loaded Citrus Soda. dnL is pretty good, but it’s no comparison to the real thing.

Even so, I think we should go out and fully support dnL in hopes that it will revive the interest in the citrus soft drink category. Think of it this way; if enough people buy dnL, perhaps our friends and Coca-Cola will decide that even though SURGE couldn’t beat Mountain Dew in the short time it was allotted, it can easily put a whooping on dnL. Let’s fight for a re-launch, people!

That’s all the time we have for this week. Thanks to all of you for caring about SURGE! Have a safe & happy week everyone!

Sincerely,

Eric Karkovack
