Hi again everyone and welcome to the 27th edition
of SaveSURGE News. We're now in our 8th month of painting the planet
green!
Sightings Just For You
----------------------------------
There have been 8 new SURGE
Sightings since the last edition of SaveSURGE News. They are
in: AR (2), KY, MA, NE, NY(2), PA.
Unfortunately, there was one deletion was made
to the big list and that was in Princeton, NJ.
There are currently 118 SURGE Sightings listed,
thanks to everyone who has been keeping an eye out for SURGE!
The Big Score
---------------------
We SURGE fanatics can be quite obsessive by nature, as is evidenced
every day on the pages of SaveSURGE.org. We often go to great lengths
to acquire as much of our Fully Loaded Citrus love as we possibly
can.
With that in mind, I, your loyal Co-Webmaster
Eric, have been in a panic lately as my once great SURGE stockpile
has dwindled to just 32 precious cans. As my dreams fell can-by-can
into the trash, I knew that I had to do something. But, what? Obviously,
SURGE is hard to come by these days in any form other than in a
fountain
"That's it! If we are unable to buy SURGE
in a can or bottle, then we'll just have to get our own fountains!",
I said to myself.
Of course, your standard fountain requires a major
investment, not to mention a hookup to a water line. Somehow, I
don't think my landlord would go for it.
Then, it hit me like a 12 pack across the forehead,
"Syrup! If I can just find some SURGE syrup, I can mix it myself.",
I thought. But, like anything else in our quest for SURGE, it wasn't
going to be easy.
Coca-Cola doesn't sell syrup to the general public.
You have to be a bottler, or a commercial customer of a bottler
in order to get your hands on some syrup. While technically I could
be considered a commercial customer, I have a home office and really
wasn't sure if they'd allow me to make purchases. However, I remembered
some nice folks on the BevNet.com BevBoard telling Avery & I
that we could possibly acquire some syrup if we made friends with
someone at a convenience store or restaurant.
So I decided to ask a friend in the grocery business
if he knew of anyone that could help. As luck would have it, he
did! A friend of a co-worker works at a convenience store and was
indeed willing to help me score some SURGE!
One phone call and a few days later, in my home
sits 2.5 gallons of SURGE Syrup!!!!!! Now, I haven't actually tried
mixing it up yet because I am currently awaiting the arrival of
a Soda Siphon (available at http://www.popsoda.com/sodastuff.html
, among other places), which creates the carbonated water I need
to make it genuine. But even with the wait, I'm happier than a kid
at Disneyworld!
I really want this to give hope to all of you
who are currently unable to get SURGE. Don't be afraid to ask a
store or restaurant manager to see if they are willing to help you
out. While there's no guarantee that you'll be able to acquire the
syrup, it doesn't hurt to ask!
When the rest of my supplies arrive, I will make
sure to let you know how everything went!
Mike's Dedication
--------------------------
Our friend Mike recently wrote in to tell us of his daylong road-trip
for SURGE:
"Well, my main quest in life currently is
to find canned SURGE. So, me and my girlfriend drove many a miles
to locate it in the different places in New Jersey. We failed...
We went to the A&P grocery in South Plainsfield and there was
nothing, then the Stop and Shop in Princeton that was on there recently
apparently doesn't exist, nor did any people in the area know what
Stop and Shop was (even though there was one about 15 miles up the
road). We also went to various other markets and gas stations all
around New Jersey and found nothing. We left at 8:00 AM and did
not return until 9:30 at night. I put 550 miles on my car in 1 day
(now its broken).
This is dedication.
This is devotion.
My search will go on. Next stop, Pennsylvania."
Mike, I think every SURGE fan can appreciate what
you went through and the effort you gave. Best of luck in PA, you
deserve some SURGE!
SaveSURGE.org Bottler of the Week
-----------------------------------------------------
Sometimes the best way to spread the word about a product is to
find a movie star who enjoys it and shows up to all of his fancy-schmansy
Hollywood parties using that product. For instance, think about
the impact it would have if Tom Cruise showed up to the Oscars with
a case of SURGE? What if Angelina Jolie started eating Zagnut bars
on the Sunset Strip?
So, with that in mind, we're giving the honor
of SaveSURGE.org's Bottler of the Week to Coca-Cola Enterprises,
Inc. - Southwest, based in Los Angeles, CA. Maybe if we can bring
SURGE back to LA, the stars will take notice! Ok, that's a little
far fetched, but here's the address:
Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc. - Southwest
1334 South Central Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90021
If you'd like to nominate your bottler, please
send your name, hometown, state and any bottler info you may have
(it's ok if you don't know who your bottler is, we can find it for
you) in an e-mail to us at: surge@savesurge.org
Thanks again everybody and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Eric Karkovack
