Hello my fellow friends of SURGE and welcome to
the ever-growing 22nd edition of SaveSURGE News. The one and only
source for what's up with SURGE.
Sightings Galore
-------------------------
My, oh my, it's been a busy time for SURGE
Sightings! Here's the breakdown:
There have been a total of 11 new SURGE Sightings
and, sadly, there have been 5 subtractions to the list. Check out
the site for details.
Make Your Own SURGE????
--------------------------------------------
There has been a recipe for making your own SURGE circulating through
the web for quite some time. Recently Ed wrote in to share his experiences
in attempting to make his own Fully Loaded fun:
The recipe he liked the most was:
10 6.75 oz. squeezie thingies of Orange Tangergreen
Hi-C
1 liter of Club Soda Water
1 cup of sugar
*The original recipe called for Hi-C Ecto Cooler,
which came out many years ago as a promotion for the Ghostbusters
movies. It has since been renamed Orange Tangergreen.
Ed also had this to say about his homemade SURGE:
"With a ten pack of the Orange Tangergreen
Hi-C mixed with a liter or so of the club soda water, you have about
three liters. For each liter of your final concoction, you need
1/3 cup of sugar. So, with three liters of the juice, use a full
cup of sugar and stir it. If you put in the caffeine pills, stir
it up *real* good, and let it sit for maybe an hour or so.
The main problem with the concoction is not the taste, which is
*VERY* close, which is all I care about... it's the carbonation.
We need super carbonated soda water to give it maximum soda feel,
but this concoction is VERY close."
While I have not personally tried this one yet,
I must say that I think the recipe makes sense. Hi-C is in fact
a division of Minute Maid, which is owned by Coca-Cola. It would
seem quite possible to achieve a close match.
One suggestion for the carbonation problem might
be to replace the club soda with carbonated water made with a Soda
Siphon. They are relatively cheap and are available at:
http://www.popsoda.com/sodastuff.html
However, I would recommend that you try the recipe
WITH the club soda first and then decide if you want to spend money
on a Siphon.
A BIG thank you goes out to Ed for sending us
the results of his hard work and experimenting!
If you try this recipe and it works well for
you, please let us know at surge@savesurge.org.
R.I.P. SURGE Shack
--------------------------------
One of the first contributions to SaveSURGE.org was a photo of the
SURGE Shack at Six
Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita, CA sent in by our good friend
Marcus.
Unfortunately, Marcus recently went through the
trauma of visiting Magic Mountain and finding that the SURGE Shack
was gone. It has been changed to the SODA
Shack, painted red and is now sporting a Diet Coke logo?!?
Not only is it sad to see a fan of SURGE as dedicated
as Marcus have to witness such an abomination, but it is also sad
in that the SURGE Shack was apparently the only significant attempt
to market SURGE we've seen within the last few years. As of right
now, it appears that there is currently NO EFFORT by Coca-Cola to
market SURGE in any way.
What this means is that we must increase our efforts
in hopes to get Coca-Cola to reconsider their stance on SURGE. We
must write to our local bottlers, speak to store managers, contact
Coca-Cola directly and keep fighting the good fight.

That's it for this edition of SaveSURGE News. Stay tuned for an
all new edition, coming soon to an inbox near you!
