SaveSURGE News

Greetings SURGE fans and welcome to the 140th edition of SaveSURGE News! As always, we’re fighting to save the soda you love.

AP Article Coming 4/18/05
Associated PressWhat figures to be one of the biggest events in our history will begin on Monday, April 18, 2005! The Associated Press feature article profiling SaveSURGE.org is tentatively scheduled for a national release on that glorious day. Journalist Marc Levy informed me earlier this week that the story could start showing up on the web as early as Sunday, April 17.

This is a great opportunity for America to see just how dedicated SURGE fans are! Avery & I are so very excited that our community will be seen by a national audience.

As mentioned above, the article most likely will show up on the web before it appears in newspapers. We do not yet know which newspapers will choose to carry our story. I’ve been told that for these type of features, a newspaper may in-fact hold on to the article for a week or two and then publish it when they have enough space. Regardless, this will be a huge amount of publicity for our cause!

We hope that as word travels, Coca-Cola will feel more pressure to reward its loyal customers.

Thank you all and stay tuned to SaveSURGE.org for the latest!

Country Thunder Underway
Debbie & Shirley's Country Thunder Blog
SURGE fans Debbie and Shirley (along with family) are currently in Florence, AZ for the Country Thunder USA festival. It’s one of the largest country music festivals out there (over 100,000 people expected to attend) but these ladies are there to do more than just listen to music. They’ve purchase a vendor booth and are collecting signatures for their own SaveSURGE.org Local Petition!

We will be receiving reports, photos and signature tallies from Country Thunder from now until the festival ends on Sunday, April 17.

We have setup a special Country Thunder Blog so that you can follow all of the action:
http://www.savesurge.org/surge/blog_thunder.php

Thanks to Debbie and Shirley for the outstanding dedication to SURGE!!! This is truly one of the greatest showings of support we have ever received.

Lot of Sixteen 2-Liter Bottles on eBay
This is one of the largest auctions we’ve seen, literally! Sixteen full, expired, 2-liter bottles of SURGE are currently up for auction on eBay. As of this writing, the going price is $93.00 (the auction ends April 17).

Of course, we’ve had 12-packs of cans sell for $152.50, so getting sixteen 2-liter bottles for $93.00 may sound like a bargain. However, that price doesn’t include the massive shipping costs!

The auction listing has a plug-in that allows potential bidders to calculate shipping costs to their zip code. I punched in my zip code and found the shipping to be a whopping $103.43 via UPS Ground! Comparatively, this is a bargain but then again it’s not cheap!

I hope that whoever wins this auction has a big tax return coming their way!

Check out the auction at:

Help Bring URGE Back to Denmark
While looking at the SaveSURGE.org Sitemeter report this week (available at: http://www.sitemeter.com/default.asp?action=stats&site=sm4savesurge) I discovered that a new site has linked to our community. As it turns out, this site is dedicated to bringing SURGE’s Norwegian (and Danish) equivalent, URGE, back to Denmark!

UrgeReunion.tk (http://www.urgereunion.tk/) went online this week and it aims to convince Coca-Cola Denmark that many fans want URGE back in that country. The site looks great and it includes a petition, background and history information on URGE. It is not in English but I highly recommend you visit and sign the petition as well at:
http://www.petitiononline.com/urgecrew/petition.html

Urge Reunion!

I spoke via e-mail this week with Jakob, who is one of the site’s three webmasters. He explained that “We want Coca Cola Denmark to open their eyes, because there's many in Denmark who want Urge to come back. Our website www.urgereunion.tk came up just yesterday (4/13/05) and is still under construction.”

While unsure of the exact date when URGE was discontinued in Denmark, Jakob estimates it disappeared from stores in 2000.

SaveSURGE.org fully supports the efforts of Jakob along with his fellow webmasters Mads and Mikki to bring URGE back to Denmark!

Poll Results – TV Stations Goofed Up
The latest SURGE Poll asked you: Why are old SURGE commercials popping up on some TV stations?

41.1% - Mistake by TV stations
33.3% - SURGE is coming back
25.5% - Coke is messing with us!

Total Votes: 141

Over the years we’ve heard a few reports that old SURGE commercials are popping up on the airwaves every so often. I’m in the camp that believes the TV stations just played something they shouldn’t have but you never know!

That’s all the time we have for this week. Thank you SURGE fans for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Eric Karkovack
