SaveSURGE News

Hello once again SURGE fans and welcome to the 111th edition of SaveSURGE News! Each week we bring you the latest happenings in the world of SURGE.

We urge (pun intended) each and every one of you to give our friends at Coca-Cola a call toll-free at 1-800-GET-COKE and request that SURGE be brought back immediately. Who knows? They may even listen!

Save Surge - The Movie - Now available on DVD!A copy of SaveSURGE.org Hall of Famer (see the next article for more info) Drew Bizzell’s much anticipated documentary, “Save Surge – The Movie”, arrived at my door just about an hour before I began writing this week’s newsletter. To say that I was thrilled to get my copy is an understatement!

The film centers on Drew and his friend Ryan as they search for their beloved SURGE. They frequent convenience stores, vending machines and, as the movie opens up, a local Wal-Mart. Frustration runs high while Drew sits endlessly on hold with several Big Lots locations, just hoping to get word that his favorite fully loaded citrus soda is in stock and ready to buy.

Of course, these are experiences that any SURGE fan can relate to and it’s what makes “Save Surge – The Movie” such an excellent representation of our cause. While this is the story of two SURGE fans in Texas, any one of us anywhere in the country could put ourselves in their shoes.

There is sadness, there is pure joy (I won’t spoil the surprise) and overall there is a sense of optimism for the SaveSURGE movement. That optimism comes from the fact that both Drew & Ryan dedicated themselves to making a difference and spreading the word. They posted SaveSURGE.org Flyers all over the place, they spoke with store clerks and even visited their local Coca-Cola Bottler. They made it known that SURGE fans are indeed everywhere and they are serious about their cause. Undoubtedly they will inspire fans all across the USA to do the same.

Overall, I can’t tell you how much I truly enjoyed this film! Mr. Bizzell and everyone involved with the production did an outstanding job. I believe this is a must-see for every single SURGE fan out there (not to mention Coca-Cola, who will be receiving their copy shortly).

Also, the DVD includes some hilarious deleted scenes, two versions of the movie trailer and a trailer for another film by Drew.

Well done, Drew!!!

On a side note, SaveSURGE.org will be working alongside Drew to spread the word about “Save Surge – The Movie” to various media outlets. A film of this caliber deserves publicity and if we have anything to say about it, you’ll be seeing it and reading about it a lot in the coming months!

SURGE Cab for Sale
1982 Checker CabSaveSURGE.org Hall of Famer Will reports that a beautiful, 1982 SURGE Checker Cab is now for sale! The asking price is $6,000. You can check out the cab at the following website:
http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/0/4/74824204.htm

In other cab news, as many of you know SURGE Cab #7 has been for sale for quite some time. Its owner has even hinted around that he may just scrap this precious piece of memorabilia for parts. Other Checker owners have convinced him not to go to extremes and so he is giving the cab more time to be sold. There is talk that a group of Checker enthusiasts may even purchase the car jointly and sell it to a museum. Will has reported that an antique auto museum in Hershey, PA is interested. Stay tuned for more information.
