Morgan & Jonathan's Week of SURGE (and Other Great Sodas!)
Morgan Y. wrote in to report about a recent week he and his friend Jonathan H. enjoyed very much. They bought Vault, they visited the World of Coke and they even saw SURGE! Read Morgan's report below and check out some great photos:
Well, all I have to say is that this has been THE week for me finding drinks. Earlier in the week, I won a very rare small-mouth can of Surge from 1997 on eBay. Then, I completed my WCW Surge can collection by winning the other 4 cans that I didn't already have on eBay (In the auction, it was for all of the WCW cans except Goldberg, and Goldberg was the only empty WCW can that I already had!). Then, my best friend and I went to Atlanta for the weekend and we just got back.
On Friday, we stopped in Gastonia, NC on the way and picked up two 2-liter and eight 20 oz. bottles of Vault to take with us. Then, when we got to Georgia I found a 12-pack of Fanta Peach (They only sell 20 oz. bottles near this area) and we got to try Fanta Apple for the first time. It was VERY GOOD! A little while later, we decided to go eat dinner at TGI Friday's and after we got done, my friend wanted to go to a store. Before we went, we decided to stop at a couple of gas stations and see what they might have. At the second one we stopped at (a Shell station), we walked in and my best friend looked at their fountain. When he showed it to me, I just about s*** myself......IT HAD SURGE!!! I rushed to get a cup until I looked up and saw "Sorry, temporarily out of order"! I was VERY happy to see Surge, but then I was also pissed at the same time because I couldn't try it! Well, after that we decided to try some more gas stations to see what they might have. I went about 2 or 3 miles down that same road to a Phillips 66 and we saw an old Coke machine behind the store. I drove up to it and just about f***ed up the transmission on my car because WE SAW SURGE AGAIN!!!!!! Once again however, I couldn't try any of it because the machine was pretty old and broke down. Still, I just couldn't believe it!

The next day, we went to the World of Coca-Cola and I told my friend that we should bring Vault with us in there because they don't sell it in the area. We went in there and were amazed by what we saw (including a video that showed clips of Surge and Citra!). We went to the second floor and sampled a bunch of things down there and then my best friend began talking to one of the employees about Vault. He and one of the other workers said that he had never even heard of it. We then told him that it was very similar to Surge and that it was being test-marketed in NC, SC, TN, VA, AL, and MI. After that, he asked my best friend if he could see the bottle for about five minutes. When he left, I asked the other guy about Fanta Citrus and if it was sold in the area. He said he didn't know and I was like "Damn!". Then, the other guy came back and very graciously brought both of us CITRA SHIRTS! I could not believe this was happening! We thanked them a lot and then went to the gift shop.

After we left and later went Bowling, we wanted to go look for Fanta Citrus. Earlier at the World of Coke, the guy that brought us the Citra shirts found out from someone else that Fanta Citrus had been test-marketed but he didn't know what happened with it afterwards. Also, my best friend had recently talked to one of his friends from Kennessaw, GA on AIM and he said that he had gotten some Fanta Citrus a couple of months ago. So, we decided to go to Kennessaw and look for it after many failed attempts to try to find it in Atlanta and the surrounding areas. After driving about 20 miles to Kennessaw, we got off I-75 and stopped at another Shell gas station. Right when we got to the cooler, there was one (yes, only one) 20 oz. bottle of FANTA CITRUS! We both ended up drinking part of it because we wanted to try it SO BADLY! Just as I figured, it was definitely Citra (which is a good thing!). Then, we went to a Chevron gas station and found four more cans of it! Unfortunately, we didn't find any more after that but at least we found it!
During our entire vacation, (counting the Fanta Citrus) we ended up buying 2-liter bottles of Vault, Fanta Apple, Fanta Peach, Barq's Root Beer, and Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, and I bought a 2-liter of Mountain Dew Pitch Black II (I know it's Dew, but it's a good drink!). We also bought a 12-pack of Fanta Apple along with the 12-pack of Fanta Peach. As for 20 oz. bottles, we bought so much stuff that I couldn't even list it all! All in all it was a great trip and most importantly, it has been THE week for SURGE!!!!!
Thanks Morgan! That was one heck of a great week you guys had!
